From the beginning of 21st century, the container ships have been becoming more and more powerful, what's following is that the container ports also become larger and larger without considering where the location are, what the future are, how many through‐out they have. As a result, so many berths are to leave unused, similar ports were built again and again. all of these must to be stopped, to do this, we should know the potential of the port exactly. As we all know, the ports, especially the hinterland‐driving container ports nowadays, result from the economy. They have their own lifecycle just like that of the economy of area; In order to assess the status and potential of container ports, this paper introduces lifecycle curve("S"Curve) based on a system of factors consisting of two layers, Layer 1 & Layer 2, which will be defined clearly in the following paper; then this paper adopts the method combined with AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process) which is used to Layer 1, and the Fuzzy Entropy while which is used to Layer 2 to know a series of efficiency of integration resource‐potential of the hinterland‐driving container port in the past time, which is linked with the second derivative of the above"S"Curve, then locates the present phase on its Lifecycle Curve; In the end, the model is applied to the Port of Shanghai, based on the conclusion, the paper will present several suggestions to the future of Port of Shanghai.
