The consumption demand is the only real final demand which is the purpose of social production, and the basic motive force of the economic growth. Those are the important problems in the consumption field, such as how to make good use of the consumption demand, how to promote the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure, form the new growth engines, thus realize the benign cycle during the consumption demand and economic growth and promote the development of whole national economy by expanding the consumption demand, optimizing the consumption structure.Xinjiang's economic development has very important function on national economy. To promote the economic development of Xinjiang, we have to promote its growth of consumption. Therefore it has great meanings have for Xinjiang' s economy to study the consumer behavior, the consumption function and consumption structure of the urban residents in Xinjiang.This paper focuses on two basic problems of consumption—Consumption function and consumption structure. First the author analyzes the data during 1978-2004 in Xinjiang and finds out that the income of the urban residents is increasing constantly in Xinjiang after 1978 and the income gap is being strengthened, which make the consumer seek connections with others in their consumption. Especially after 1990, the constant enlargement of the scale of our capital market, the constant improvement of residents' asset reserve, and the further promotion of the system reform, have increased the uncertainty of the social environment, made the consumption of residents more perspective.
