China's economic growth rate has remained constant since the socialist market economic system reform in 1992. But in the meantime, the economic development is over-reliance on investment and export. The problem of insufficient domestic demand has become a major obstacle to economic growth.This paper, on the basis of taking a thorough understanding concerning consumption behaviors'theory inside and outside the country, make empirical researched about the consumption behaviors and the affecting factors of urban residents from different income levels prospective in Guangdong Province. Firstly, a quantitative study is made on factors affecting the consumption behaviors of urban residents among different income levels in Guangdong Province. This part of the paper involves the empirical researches about the influences caused by income uncertainty, intertermporal consumption and fluidity constrain to consumption behaviors of urban residents in Guangdong Province. At the same time, according to the reality of our undergoing economic systems reform, the paper also study the long-run and short-run connection between consumption and income of urban residents among different income levels in Guangdong Province by using ECM. Secondly, analysis is about the consumption structure of urban residents in Guangdong Province. The consumption structure study is made in several aspects:static analysis and dynamic analysis of income and consumption trends, the changes of consumption propensity, the consumption ratio among different commodities. Through this research,found that the consumption behaviors of the middle-income and the low-income consumer can be explained by absolute income hypothesis and relative income hypothesis;while the high-income consumers are consistent with the permanent income hypothesis, and they have the ability to inter-temporal consumption.So,the paper come up with some specific suggestions to the low-income; imddle-income and high-income comsumers.
