This paper is a general study of the application of knowledge transfer in R&D projects. The knowledge transfer management in R&D department at XXX Company is used as a case study.By reference of Dixon's knowledge transfer theory, the author first introduced a knowledge transfer model for R&D projects and proposed several factors which might impact the effectiveness of knowledge transfer in R&D teams.Then the author conducted a case study on project management and knowledge transfer in the R&D team of XXX Company. By doing surveys and statistical analysis, he managed to verify the assumptions that 1)media, technical and instrument support has a positive correlation with knowledge transfer; and 2) a well-implemented knowledge transfer mechanism should largely determine the effectiveness and efficiency of knowledge transfer in R&D division. To apply the findings to the real work, following the suggestions was proposed to the R&D department of XXX Company. 1) Enhance the technological, media and instrument support to knowledge transfer. 2) Systematically re-examine & refine the knowledge transfer mechanism and strategy. 3) Improve the integration of knowledge transfer in R&D projects'routine tasks. 4) Recognize the incentives during the knowledge transfer processThe innovation ideas in this paper mainly concentrated in following aspects. a) Elucidated the R&D project based knowledge transfer process via combine the knowledge transfer and R&D project characteristics. b) Revealed the significant impact the mechanism, strategy and policy the R&D division adopted on knowledge transfer performance via empirical analysis upon dedicated companyIn the conclusion section, the author made a summary of the assumptions and thesis while pointed out the limitations which deserve further study.
