Project management is a management science that was developed in forties of last century. In the early stages of development, its scope of application was mainly in the aerospace, defense, construction and other areas. Along with the development of project management, its applying field is widening. And now, it has also been widely used in the manufacture of motor vehicles and parts.Although the development of China's automobile industry has made great progress, it hasn't established an effective system of product development and project management. Product development and management still remains in the traditional management model, and compared with some other countries we have a large gap in auto and parts industry. With the aggravation of the internationalization process and the increasing of numerous opportunities, the competition is more intense, and the market is also more severe. In order to survive and keep sustainable development, it is a must for the enterprises to constantly develop new products. In the automotive parts industry, the success of product development depends on the technology innovation and application in part and the project management in the other part. And it specially depends on the organization of the project environment, schedule and risk control. Therefore, the research of auto parts enterprises in project management is greatly significance for the enterprise to improve the competitiveness of product development.The main contents of this paper were to learn how to use the thoughts and methods of project management to optimize product development in the product development of auto parts. Through the investigation of PM company which is a auto parts company, this paper introduced the company and the principal products of it, and analyzed the status and characteristics of the company's product development. Then combining with the instance of product development project of SE, used the way of project management, firstly determined the organizational structure of the project, the project startup, secondly used the work breakdown (WBS), program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT), critical path method (CPM) and network diagram to determine the optimalest project plan, thirdly used MS Project which is a project management software to control the drawing Gantt chart project schedule. In accordance with risk identification procedures, this paper comprehensively analyzed and identified the risks of product development project of SE, and assessed these risks, then used AHP to analyze these risks, raised the corresponding response measures, and finally reviewed this product development projectThrough the analysis of project management of product development of SE, first of all, this paper built the management processes of new product development project and introduced a new concept of product development for the company. In the second place, it solved a range of issues which arised in the course of PM project management, and provided theoretical directions and implementation experiences for the development of other products of the company. Lastly this paper also provided a reference for the project management of product development of automotive parts industry.
