Group is regarded as an important organizing form and work unit in the operation of modern enterprise. There are lots of existing researches exploring the source of group effectiveness from various perspectives. Based on these previous researches, this article introduces the concept of social capital and research method of social network analysis into field of group management. From the perspective of informal ties network inside and outside groups, a multi-level theoretical model focusing on the relationship between group social capital and group effectiveness has been developed so as to explore the mechanism of the former'impact on the later. Quantitative experimental research also was conducted to test the raised model. The results show that the former plays a critical role in the formation of the later. An optimal structure of informal ties network inside and outside groups formed by decent level of closure, bridging and leader centrality which can maximize the group social capital and group effectiveness does exist.
