Research On The Choice Of Leading Industries In Hangzhou City

Both the economic development history of countries in the world and economic theories study have shown that the development of leading industries plays an important part in regional economic development. The regional leading industry indicates the industrial advantages and represents the future of regional industries. Leading industries as a strong strength of economic growth in different stages of regional development can exert the potential economic advantages, so that the regional resources can be effectively used. It can also promote to establish coordination economic relations between different regions.Since year 1978, Hangzhou's economy has greatly developed and now it has formed a unique regional advantage. But with the development of other cities in Zhejiang province, the economic center status of Hangzhou has got growing number of challenges. The financial crisis which began 2008 has brought huge adverse effects to the economic development of Hangzhou. The next period is very important time to practice the scientific concept of development and to full implement the target bring forward by the Hangzhou government. It also the key time to response to the significant changes in domestic and international environment, to accelerate economic transformation and to upgrading to achieve well-off society. So, to select a series of leading industries is now an urgent task faced by Hangzhou government. The leading industries should adapt to the overall economic development of Hangzhou, and it should play an important in optimizing the industrial structure and promoting the economic development.Based on the above background, this thesis prepare from theory, quantitative and qualitative points of view to research the leading industries in Hangzhou. The thesis firstly sorts the concepts and theories which associated with the leading industry. Next, we review the key research results by the predecessors, and the lack of the study on the basis of this study, we bring forward the directions and focus of this thesis. Then, we construct the choice models of the leading industries in Hangzhou from the leading industry of choice principles, benchmarks, and indicators system and evaluation methods. Then, we put forward the choice models for choosing the leading industry in Hangzhou to conduct an empirical analysis. The thesis analyzed the economic development in Hangzhou from a general overview of the economic development, the industrialization process analysis. In the above-mentioned theoretical and practical analysis, the thesis applies the principal component analysis to analyze the 37 industries in Hangzhou to choose the leading industry. Finally, on the results of qualitative analysis, the historical evolution of the leading industries and detail analysis about each industry we take the equipment manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and textiles as Hangzhou's leading industries.
