Economic globalization, the rising social status for female, theper capital expense increasing, and the optimistic living andconsumption concept have being influence the development ofclothing industry. With the increasing of pregnant woman, thepotential of maternity dress is excavated. At present the maternitydress in china is developed slowly, but it has great developing space,and only the dress that match the requirement of pregnant woman,and that possesses the creative ideas can be accepted by the market.The development of dress is one of the important parts of humancivilization and social civilization. Culture constrains the waypeople dress themselves, and the cultural environment also affectspeople’s choice of dress. Under the circumstance of fashion, thepregnant woman’s choice of dress keeps progressing, what they needis to fit for the functional needs, and also fit for the spiritualrequirements. At present, most maternity dress customers are thegenerations after80s and90s, who are the fashion chasers underthe international environment, and their requirements towardsmaternity dress would be higher and finer than ever.This paper would analyze the realistic basis of maternity dressdesign according to the questionnaire survey, from the view point economics, society, culture, psychology and physiology. In themeantime, with the combination of ergonomics, psychology, sociology,so as to find the way to design the maternity dress that fit forthe requirement of modern pregnant woman and to give the suggestionsof dress design, which meet the functional needs and the emotionalneeds of ego pursuit. Pregnant women’s needs on dress is not limitedto the functional requirements, the cultural connotation has becomethe core, the key, the most critical, the most valuable fundamentalresources, and the capital for brand competition. In this paper,we would investigate the fashion culture effect on the maternitydress design and the essential connotation of social value.
