The current bucket wheel excavator are generally large and are usually applied tolarge opencast coal mine and overburden stripping of coal mining engineering etc,indigging of small coal mine, pollution control project of river、 lake and cityconstruction etc,the large bucket wheel excavator is not flexible for operation, bigproportion, covers large material field area and wastes material resource and financialresource. In order to solve these problems, a small bucket whell excavator is designed.the structure characteristics of a small bucket wheel excavator are simple structure,small proportion,flexible operation,low weight and good operation stability etc. It ismainly composed of bucket wheel mechanism,balancing mechanism,slewingmechanism,belt conveyor,walking mechanism and other parts.Bucket wheelmechanism directly complete tomining and reclaimer task, the motion of all parts arerespectively driven by the oil cylinder to achieve. The counterweight device and rotarymechanism can ensure the stability and flexibility.Bucket whell mechanism is a key component of reclaimering; counterweight armis a critical part to maintain stable for the center of gravity of the bucket wheelexcavator,it can enhance the stability of bucket wheel excavator under differentoperating conditions.Slewing mechanism can drive the bucket wheel andcounterweight arm to rotate in the horizontal plane.Therefore,the paper mainlycompletes the design of bucket wheel mechanism、slewing mechanism、balancingmechanism and the analysis of related structures.First of all,the paper introduces classification and composition of bucket wheelexcavator,an overview on the overall function and structure of the large bucket wheelexcavator,and it can lay a good foundation for the design of small bucket wheelexcavator.Secondly,the paper introduces the structure characteristics of small bucket wheelexcavator and focus on introducing the key mechanism-bucket wheel mechanism,slewing mechanism and balacing mechanism etc. Because the structure of small bucketwheel excavator is relatively complex and it has more content related to structuredesign,so the paper only carries on the design to the bucket wheel mechanism, counterweight arm and the rotary mechanism.According to the calculated size,two-dimensional map and three-dimensional are drawed and ready for the next step offinite element analysis.As counterweight arm plays a key role in maintaining woking stability of smallbucket wheel excavator and counterweight arm of small bucket wheel excavator issliding-sliding weight instead of fixed weight.In order to test rationality of the designand balance effect of the sliding counterweight device, structure of the small bucketwheel excavator is modeled and used for finite element analysis with ansys. Becausebucket wheel mechanism of the small bucket wheel excavator suffer periodic diggingforce in the work,the whole mechanism will be very dangerous when the naturalfrequency of the whole mechanism is close to the speed frequency. Therefore, thenatural frequency of whole machaniam is obtained by application of dynamic analysisof ANSYS and it can vertifies the rationality of mechanism design and avoids theresonance problem of small bucket wheel excavator.
