Sheng Yin Bian by Lang Tingji is one of the most important diary works on wineliterature in the Qing Dynasty. However, the research on Sheng Yin Bian is still scarce.On the one hand, there were only a few historical records about Lang’s life, whichcause much obstacles on researching Lang Tingji and his work under traditionalliterature and history research system featuring” knows one’s background then judgehis works”. On the other hand, except for several monographs on Sheng Yin Bian, thestudy on literary and compilation value of the work was insufficient. On the basis ofthis, this paper attempts to carry out a preliminary discussion on the compilation ofSheng Yin Bian.This paper altogether is divided six major chapters. The chapter one mainlyintroduces the information about Lang Tingji‘s life and his family. Due to the revoltof the three feudatories, the imperial was abolished. So when he was19, Lang Tingjigot a post as a magistrate of a prefecture in Jiang Ning through the relationship of hisfamily. And then he move to Shun Ning as a prefecture in Yun Nan. After many yearsof ups and downs in officialdom, he finally got a position as the governor of graintransportation. Wherever he went, there had numerous achievements. Lang’s familymuch pays attention to cultivate personal ability and intrinsic tutelage. On theinvestigation of his life and family, it is the important premise to explore thecompilation research on Sheng Yin Bian.The second chapter mainly introduces the compilation background and theVersion circulating situation of Sheng Yin Bian. From the perspective of Lang Tingji’scompiling purpose, I try to investigate the writing reason caused by the social factorsat that time.The third chapter mainly discusses the compilation methods of Sheng Yin Bian. Itsstyle inherited Yi wen lei ju’s methods that the same kinds of things put it together andallusions and articles are both record which not only can help the editors to collectmaterials, but also can be good for readers to consult the information. The work alsolearns Chang Bian body’s characteristics that are both listing similarities and differences and then referencing the similarities and differences to look for the truth.These methods not only can record a large amount of historical data, but also canleave A certain amount of space for other scholars to further study.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the compilation thoughts of Sheng Yin Bian.Based on wine ceremony, Lang Tingji advocates the doctrine of the mean and thepursuit of the pleasure of drinking. Wine ceremony is the content of the Confucianethical code thought system; and the doctrine of the mean is the essence of Chinesetraditional philosophy, so the thoughts of the work is deeply influenced by theConfucian ethical code and the traditional philosophy thought.The fifth chapter mainly discusses the connotation of wine culture in Sheng YinBian. It involves a large number of historical materials related to wine which has aunique wine culture connotation. It mainly concentrated in three aspects. There areWine vulgar, Wine virtue and the attitude to wine respectively. The discussion in wineculture connotation is an important supplement to the compiling research about thework.The sixth chapter mainly discusses the literature value of the work. The work hasimportant historical values. It retains a large number of heritages in poem, article,corpus, notes, biography, etc. In addition to this, it has social customs, anecdotes.These reflect China’s extensive, profound and unique wine culture.
