Because it possesses good wear-resistant and long working life, hardened die steel has a wide range of applications in the industrial field of mold manufacture. High hardness and strength of hardened die steel lead to processing efficiency lowly, cutting tools easy to wear and increasing processing costs. That hardened die steel was high-speed milled can improved processing efficiency and surface quality, and reduce processing cost . It is necessary to study in-depth on high-speed milling.Following experimental scheme is used in this paper. Cutter: coated carbide vertical milling cutter and ball-end milling cutter; Workpiece material: Cr12MoV(55-60HRC); Milling mode: down milling, without cutting fluids, to the experimental study on high-speed milling of hardened die steel cutter-edge mechanism. As follow is specific research content:First, we use super depth of field microscope to measure cutter-edge radius. Second, the milling force’s experiment was done, and used Kistler 9265B to measure the force, and studied cutter-edge radius and cutting condition influence on the force. Using of the result to build the force’s empirical model, we analyze its regression. Third, the milling temperature’s experiment was done. We used infrared radiation method measuring it, and studied cutter-edge radius and cutting condition influence on the temperature, and get the result to significance analysis. Last, according to orthogonal and single factor’s experiments, we analyzed cutter-edge radius and cutting condition influence on the surface roughness.The following conclusion can be get from this paper: as using vertical milling cutter high-speed milling hardened die steel , cutter-edge radius was the most significance on milling force, milling temperature and surface roughness, but as using ball-end milling cutter high-speed milling hardened die steel , cutter-edge radius was not the most significance.
