In the process of metal cutting, cutting tool is one of the most important tools.With the development of numerical control(NC) machine tool and flexible manufacturing system(FMS) and the increasing demands for high speed, high efficiency, high precision and high stability of cutting tool, the research on the material and structure of cutting tool in deepening. At the same time, cutting edge passivation technology has been widely used in the import tool.A lot of research and production practice show that cutting edge passivation can not only make the tool’s life is prolonged but also improve the cutting process stability and the surface quality of machined parts. The cost reduce as well as bring greater economic benefits.China is a big manufacturing country, the cutting tool consumption ranks first in the world. However, there is still a big gap in the machinability and life between the domestic and imported cutting tool. Therefore, research on cutting edge passivation technology has a very important social significance and practical application value to improve the quality of cutting tool products, enhance the level of manufacturing and reduce the dependence on imported tool cutting in China.This study comes from "The Industrial Relations Project in Guizhou Province"-The R & D Activities and in the Industrialization of Carbide Alloy Cutting Edge Passivation Technology. The research object is the carbide end mill, by combining the passivation process experiment, the cutting experiment and computer simulation,study on the Influence of some passivation process parameters, such as the material,ratio, time, cutting tool’s speed and turning direction, establish the prediction model of blunt round radius and the passivation process parameters; The study also establish the prediction model of the cutting force, the cutting temperature, the surface roughness and the surface residual stress in milling in the different radius of rounded cutting edge and cutting consumption by finishing the finite element simulationanalysis of the milling test and the milling process and study the influence of cutting edge passivation on machining performance. This study can also provide evidence for improving the process design of carbide alloy cutting edge passivation and cutting edge passivation process design in cutting tool manufacturing.
