It has been two years since participating in the karst groundwater resources survey of Guiyang from 2013, and the article is based on the results of it. The main research achievements are as following:(1)Determined the groundwater resources in the research area according to the drainage basins and administrative divisions.(2)The analysis using the Mining Coefficient method shows that the allowable groundwater exploitation quantity is 515920000 m3/a, the gross exploited groundwater amounts to 122370000 m3/a, the utilization rate is 23.72%. Groundwater exploitation potential evaluation results show that the development and utilization potential of the study area is small.(3)Aiming at the research of groundwater resources development and utilization risk of the target layer, the three indicators of groundwater resources natural status, its development and utilization status, social and economic developing status has been set up. The five sub targets of the hydrogeological characteristics, the resource quantity characteristics, development and utilization status, water quality, wells engineering has been selected, which covers twelve evaluation factors, making the evaluation results more representative.( 4) The catastrophe theory model calculation has demonstrated that the comprehensive groundwater development risk of the 10 administrative regions within the groundwater system in the study area ranges from 0.77 to 0.91. According to the risk classification, they all belong to moderate to high risk regions, including Qingzhen city and Xifeng county development risk, whose risks are high. And groundwater exploitation and protection suggestions of the research area have been made accordingly.(5)The identification and quantification of each index in the catastrophe theory model is based on the intrinsic mechanism of each index in the formula itself and it can also conclude the risk value of the target layer by the step-by-step calculation method, which reduces the subjectivity comparing with other methods, making the decision and evaluation more practical. Thus provides a reference for making reasonable and effective exploitation model, decision-making and management of karst groundwater for the research area.
