The Growth physiological response under the water stress was researched for C.arborescens Ecotype Wu and C.arborescens Ecotype Kerqin in this study. We used pot cultivation in a field experiment to control water content. Many indexes were measured in this research:the lamina content of water, malondialdehyde MDA, proline, relative content of water, water saturation deficiency, electrical conductivity, the activity of peroxidase, catalase, SOD (superoxide dismutase), root activity, photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, plant height, leaf area and crown breadth in response to water stress. The results are as follows:(1) there are significant differences between C.arborescens Ecotype Wu and C. arborescens Ecotype Kerqin in response to water stress, especially in the middle and later periods, there are significant differences in physiological metabolism. Compared to C.arborescens Ecotype Wu, C.arborescens Ecotype Kerqin shows to have a stronger endurance under the water stress, specific performance in lower water desorption, stronger protective enzyme activity and fewer membrane damage product. (2) plants will resist water stress by reducing the water desorption of leaf tissues. (3) the sensitivity of pro relative content variation is higher than enzyme activity under water stress. (4) SOD was a sensitive index for plant under water stress.
