With the sustained growth of China’s comprehensive strength, the rapid increase of theeconomic level and the continuous expansion of the city scale, all kinds of planning andconstruction data is increasing exponentially. The traditional manual management model hasbeen difficult to adapt to this trend. Hence, there is an urgent need to build an efficient andreasonable outcome data and information management systems to aid urban planning. Basedon the actual needs of urban planning data management, this paper propose the separation ofthe property database and the spatial database design on the basis of the analysis of thesituation of existing data and the research of the data organization. The C/S three-tierarchitecture model is used to design the urban planning spatial database management system.The related issues about the design of the urban planning spatial data symbol library and thecartography and publishing are also discussed in this paper. The specific results are asfollows:(1)Depending on the analysis of the characteristics of the CAD data, this paper researchthe method of extracting the relevant information from the CAD data space, which provides aconvenient way for the data update of urban planning spatial database. Depending on theanalysis of the characteristics of the planning documentation, the paper propose a way of dataorganization, which lays the foundation for the effective management and quick search of thedata.(2)The design of the urban planning spatial database is completed. Based on thedifferent types and functions, the spatial database is divided into eight parts as the basicgeospatial database, the comprehensive planning geospatial database, the control planninggeospatial database, the construction planning geospatial database, specialized planninggeospatial database, the completed geospatial database, the road network geospatial database,and the land geospatial database. Taking into account the urban dynamic change, eachdatabase has a respectively corresponding historical library which is used for recording thehistorical data before updating and comparative analysis.(3)The overall design of the management system of urban planning spatialdatabase,based on the C/S three-tier architecture model, and the detailed design of the six functional modules as the document management module, the system management module,the data check module, the spatial data maintenance module, the cartographic output moduleand the system settings module, are also completed.(4)The symbols production of the city planning spatial data is completed and theexpressive ability of the map is greatly enhanced. Map drawing is used to improve the mapdisplay and solve the problems of the clarity and the amount of information. The use ofcaching technique greatly increases the data load speed.
