The present thesis mainly deal with the taxonomy of Syrphidae (Diptera: Syrphoidea) in Loess Plateau area in China. The research history of Syrphidae worldwide and in Chinese fauna are reviewed, its morphology and biology, material and methods, economic importance are introduced, syrphid fauna in Loess Plateau area is analysed. In the taxonomic section, 96 species of 43 genera in 15 tribes in two subfamilies are reported, of which, 5 new species and 11 new record of species for Loess Plateau area are recognized. Keys to all included taxa are given, photoes of all species in dorsal view and also the male genitalia of the new species are presented. References and indexes of sceientific names and Chinese names are provided.New species: Paragus auriscute sp. nov., Dasysyrphus helistriata sp. nov., Eipstrophe pseudiribipoda sp. nov., Merodon albopubesces sp. nov., Volucella laojunshanana sp. nov..New record of species: Paragus crenulatus Thomsom, 1869, Ischiodon aegyptius Wiedemann, 1830, Eupeodes cheni He, 1992, Melangyna labiatarum Verrall, 1901, Primocerioides petri Herve-Bazin, 1914, Cheilosia illustrate Harris, 1780, Lathyrophthalmus octopunctatus Li, 1995, Lathyrophthalmus arvorum Fabricius, 1787, Mesembrius bengalensis (Wiedemann, 1819) , Eumerus figurans Walker, 1859, Eumerus aurifrons Wiedemann, 1824.The type specimens of the new species are deposited in the Entomological Museum, Northwest A & F University, Yangling, Shannxi, China (NWAFU).
