The Study Of Beijing Bird Watching Society Activities In Science Communication

In China, the tradition of Natural history has a long history, but since modern times, asthe impact of western scientific system and the values, natural history that once led "sciencevogue" at the forefront of science almost extinguished. The development of the human raceand the progress of the society need promotion of modern science, but one-sided emphasis onthe modern scientific development has made us feel the division of man and nature, divisionof science and humanities, and modern scientific development also brings a lot of problems,such as industrial pollution, resource failure, etc. It also let a lot of sensitive scholars begin topay attention to traditional natural history, science media scholars led by Liu Huajie and WuGuosheng,on the basis of reflection of the traditional popular science, put forward that sciencecommunication should first spread new natural history, to bring mankind a civilization drive,making the economy development, the social development and human morality, thoughts,feelings, and natural sustainable development highly fusion.In fact, since the rise of China environmental protection organization at the end of the1990’s to today, some none government environmental protection organization has made theattempt in this aspect. Although their original intention is not at a starting point of spreadingnatural history knowledge, but as the low threshold of the natural history practice activities,and it related to the daily life of common people, so it won the love of many citizens,indirectly promoting the public scientific literacy ascension. This also brings sciencecommunication workers and researchers revelation that none government organization play aimportant role in promoting nature science and are the most effective communication means.But because the study of natural history in China is still very edge, the advantage ofnone government organization in the spread of natural history knowledge has not got enoughattention, so literature from science communication angle to analyze natural history practice isstill blank. So this paper chose the most mature, the most influential bird watching activitiescarried out by the none government organization in the natural history practice, took BeijingBird Watching Society as a micro case and carried out a further and specific research on it is not only a useful exploration of science communication contents, but also has importantmeaning to enrich the main body of science communication.The author participated in the activity of Beijing bird Watching Society from May of2010to May of2011, collected a large collection of material through observation, depthinterview and so on, and used ethnography style for reference, made Beijing bird WatchingSociety in the macro background of bird watching groups of the whole Beijing area, microdescribed the daily activities of bird watching in detail, and then analyzed the characteristics,motivation and the harvest and change before and after bird watching in the participants ofBird watching activity in detail from the macroscopic level, at last drew the conclusion.Aiming to cause all sectors of the community pay attention to the spread of the natural historyknowledge, and promoting its development and communication.
