Implementation And Research Of Enterprise Information Portal Based On Knowledge Management

Enterprise Information Portal (EIP) plays an essential role as an important development direction of informatization in the enterprise information construction. By using EIP, employees, customers and partners of an enterprise can access its information resources and application systems which support lots of features such as single-point login, customized configuration, navigation, searching, and integration, etc. An integral EIP can effectively merge existing independent systems, completely bring into fullplay share advantages of information resources, improve work efficiency, resolve kinds of issues caused by Information Island, provide more perfect information services for its users, and thus finally improve an enterprise's competitive power. The role that EIP plays in information construction is obvious to all; however, does EIP just integrate independent systems into together? Can EIP constructed by substantive investment really improve an enterprise's competitive power? Can EIP really achieve the characteristic "transferring correct knowledge to person needs them in the felicitous time and place" promised by solution providers? Unfortunately, the facts make CEO and CIO have to admit that enterprises are still very far away from the above targets, and thus the decision makers have to redeploy EIP. Meanwhile, it is aware that knowledge management is becoming not only a new bourn of enterprise information management but also the key factor which an enterprise can prevail competitive advantages. Therefore, bringing knowledge management into EIP and really making EIP a platform of knowledge sharing, broadcasting and application have become a main trend of EIP development.Taking the above background as initiation, this paper starts with the essential meanings of EIP, deeply analyzes the emergence causes, development phases, competitive advantages, and core theories and technologies of representative EIP products. Based on the study of whole EIP architecture, the analysis on principles and practices of knowledge management system, the research on EIP's advantages and disadvantages, the paper also explores issues of knowledge management in the framework of EIP such as its effectual application, EIP construction and the strategies that knowledge management merges EIP.
