Nowadays, the large construction enterprises in China are accompanied with both great opportunities and challenges because the increasingly intensive competitions in the construction industry as well as the tremendous investments of governmental agencies and social organizations in large construction projects are increased in a remarkable rate. To meet the need of improving work efficiencies together with that of reducing costs, large construction enterprises have to work hard to apply the advanced theories and methodologies in the discipline of supply chain to the establishment of their own supply chain systems according to the characters of both their own and the whole industry. However, many academic achievements are not able to provide strong guidance, without which most enterprises cannot establish the systems effectively limited by their abilities, because they do not consider the daily operations of these enterprises. Therefore, the constructions of supply chain systems of the large construction enterprises in China are far behind the schedule. In order to avoid this dilemma, this dissertation discusses the issue of constructing supply chain systems on the basis of the actual conditions of the enterprises and provides some useful and applicable theories and methods. Firstly, the dissertation analyzes a prevalent organizational structure in Chinese construction enterprises, discusses the basic properties and functions of their supply chains, illustrates the relations among different organizations in the supply chain and proposes some key indicators and methods to evaluate the utilities of a supply chain. Secondly, the dissertation analyzes the workflows between a large construction enterprise and their partners. Then we propose the system structure of the supply chain by using the Petri Net to illustrate and optimize these workflows. To provide a reference to design the supply chain, we demonstrate a method based on the principal of the minimum costs and work out an algorithm to realize it. Thirdly, the dissertation makes an intensive research on the issue of how to choose qualified partners for large construction enterprises to establish the supply chains. To solve this problem, we initially introduce a method, which is based on the theories of Rough Sets, to classify potential partners. Then we discuss the evaluation indicators to different classes of potential partners, and later use the methodologies of analytic hierarchy process and artificial neural networks to evaluate them comprehensively. As the summary of this part of content, we propose a software algorithm to realize the whole process. Finally, the dissertation explores the cooperation mechanism in the supply chain of the large construction enterprises within the framework of the theory of "Principal-Agent". Based on some premises, we establish mathematic models and demonstrate three strategies which should be adopted by these enterprises when they cooperate with their partners. To sum up, the dissertation analyzes the conditions of the large construction enterprises in China and hence comprehensively discusses the theories and methods of the construction of their supply chains.
