At present, overall development of regional economy is a vital and urgent strategic duty confronted by governments at all levels. Base on the condition of Anhui province, the paper has analyzed the history, current situation and existing problems of its regional economic development. Basic thinking and feasible policies on overall developing Anhui regional economy have been systematically clarified in terms of the experience in theory and practice.The whole paper is to be divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction on the theory related to overall development of regional economy, in which concept of regional economy, definition on overall development of regional economy, its current situation researched by native experts, and experience from foreign countries are made out. Part two focuses on significance and urgency in overall developing Anhui regional economy from historical and realistic aspects, points out its problems and developing process, and makes conclusions that the gap in Anhui regional economic development has become evident and has been widening. In the third part, the researcher elaborates on basic thinking in achieving regional economic development on the basis of native experience. Part four examines two important breakthroughs in overall developing Anhui regional economy by the theoretical research on regional economy to fulfill dialectical unity on coordinated development andnon-coordinated development. Those areas that have strong economy should take the lead in development. Regions under poverty should accelerate steps to achieve prosperity. In the last part, the goals on regional economic policy and measures on overall development of Anhui regional economy are indicated.
