The regional economic multipoles growth is a kind of spatial organization whichguides regional economic pattern to balance. As an important form of regionaleconomy spatial organization, the developmental idea of regional economicmultipoles growth is proposed in European Spatial Development Perspective firstly. The European Union is trying to use the method of regional economic multipolesgrowth to promote the balanced regional economic development in orde to eliminateregional economic disparities. Thereafter, some countries and regions use this way topromote harmonious development of regional economy. However, compared with thepractice, the theory study of regional economic multipoles growth is relativelybackward. It is mainly manifested in lack of scientific and rigorous investigation onthe concept of regional economic multipoles growth, growth pole theory、polycentricurban region study and world economic multipolarization theory haven’t explaned theformation mechanism of regional economic multipoles growth. Therefore, thisdissertation chooses the mechanism of regional economic multipoles growth asresearch topic, builds theory model and reveals its formation mechanism based ondefining the concepet of regional economic multipoles growth in order to make acontribution to the establishment of regional economic multipoles growth theory. Toachieve this research purpose, the dissertaton focuses on three research work:concept definition of regional economic multipoles growth; the analysis of growthpole formation mechanism; study the evolution of regional economic multipolesgrowth.Firstly, the dissertation analyzes the research literature of growth pole, and findsthat there is a controversy on both its spatial scale and time dimension. Therefore, thedissertation defines the concept of regional economic multipoles growth from theperspective of the interaction between the economic subject and location, to explorethe essence of growth pole; further analyzes the spatial scale and time dimension ofregional economic multipoles growth. The dissertation defines the regional economic multipoles growth is defined as a regional economic body has two or more growthpole, which don’t have obvious difference on size and status. These growth polesconnect each other and jointly promote the development of this regional economicbody. It is a kind of regional economic phenomenon accompanied with the humaneconomic and socialdevelopment, and it experiences three stages whichareno-connection multipolesgrowth, low-level connection multipoles growth, completely connection multipoles growth. Moreover, the regional economicmultipoles growth shows the characteristics of dynamic evolution, spatial dependenceand time-sapce interaction.Dynamic evolution determines the historical characteristicsof regional economic multipoles growth, spatial dependence means the assumption ofhomogeneous space is no longer suitable for the analysis of mechanism of regionaleconomic multipoles growth, time-space interaction requires that both time and spacemust be considered in the construction of the model.Secondly, there is closely connection between the formation of growth pole andspatial agglomeration of economic subject from the perspective of the interactionbetween economic subject and location. The dissertation finds that the assumption ofhomogeneous space ignores the differences of endowments elements in differentlocation, so location choice theory under assumption of homogeneous space can notconnect the formation of growth pole and location choice by analyzing the study ofmicro-foundation of the agglomeration economy. The main reason for this problem isthat monistic location choice used in location theory ignores the effect of space oneconomic subject when location theory analyses the formation of agglomerationpoint.. Therefore, the dissertation puts forward the assumption of non-homogeneousspace, further proposes binary choice form of location theory in order to takenon-homogeneous space into the location choice model, at the same time, analyzesthe rationality of binary with defining the concept of regional economic multipolesgrowth. The dissertation straightens out the relationship between group, location andgrowth pole by defining concept of group and location, and distinguishingthe agglomeration with or without spatial dimension. Then the dissertation constructthe binary choice model of growth pole formation on the assumption of producers and consumers which are in the undivided and non-homogeneous space, and take factorwhich reflect location endowments elements into the model by matching cost. Theresult of model shows that the optimal group density of a location is codetermined bylocation endowments elements density, matching cost and matching distance. As aresult, growth pole is in accordance with the condition ofregional endowments elements under the assumption of interactionbetween group and location. This result certainly answers the problem of “where theeconomic subject agglomerates”. Then, the dissertation analyzes the regionaleconomic spatial organization form of a region consisting of three locations withdifferent condition of regional endowments elements, and gets a conclusion that thehigher level of regional homogeneity, the bigger possibility of regional economicmultipoles growth. Finally, the dissertation uses the perspective of binary choice form to analyze thesimilarities and differences of location theory, new economic geography andevolutionary economic geography on studying the regional economicspatial organization forn, and points out the location theory and the new economicgeography pay more attention to economic factors, while evolutionary economicgeography emphasizes the influence of path dependency, resulting in the conflict ofthe three research paradigms and contradiction of their conclusion. Inorder to solvethis problem, the dissertation uses the assumption of producers and consumersin undivided and non-homogeneous space to determine the new idea of modelconstruction which takes evolution viewpoint into theoretical analysis. For dealingwith the difficult when we bring non-homogeneous space and group inseparabilityinto the model construction, the dissertation firstly discusses monopolisticcompetition price index under the assumption of non-homogeneous space, takes thenature of market into the model, and constructs regional economic multipoles growthevolution model to analyze the influence of location endowments elementsconditions、,transportation cost, scale economy effect, crowding effect on the regionaleconomic spatial organization pattern. The conclusion is the following, under certainconditions, with the increase of scale economy effect and the decline of marginal production cost of advantage location, the economic agglomeration getsstrengthened, which hinders the formation of regional economic multipoles growth;with the increase of crowding effect and the decline of marginal production cost in thedisadvantage location, the economic agglomeration gets weakened, which helps theformation of regional economic multipoles growth; when the transportation cost islarge, the decline of transportation cost strengthened the links among locations, promoting the evolution of regional economic spatial organization form fromdispersion to agglomeration. However, when the transportation cost reduce to acertain extent, further reducing the transportation cost will lead regionaleconomic spatial form to dispersion. Therefore, under certain conditions, with thedecline of transportation costs, regional economic multipoles growth will experiencethe process of weakening firstly and then constantly strengthening. The dissertationfinds that regional economic multipoles growth evolution model under the assumptionof non-homogeneous space provides a general form of spatial economic organizationevolution model campared with the conclusion of new economic geography. Inaddition, with the further deepened development of market economy, the regionaleconomic disparities may experience an expansion stage, but it will promote regionaleconomic development to balanced direction finally.
