Core Competence is an unique skill or technique that makes the company bring special benefits to the customers. One foreign trade company may have many competitive advantages, but all of these cannot be regarded as core competence. If a competitive advantage becomes core competence, it must have the following several essential features: First, it should possess the value that customers admit, or it can offer fundamental benefit or use to customers; Secondly, it should possess uniqueness, which is very important. If an enterprise' s speciality is very easy to imitate by its rival or can be set up quickly through efforts, it is very difficult to provide permanent competitive advantage for enterprise. Such ability difficult to imitate can bring the profit which exceed average level to enterprises; Thirdly, it should possess the ability of prolonging. The core competence can be represented not only in technique but also in production, management, marketing and finance. That is to say, it should be able to support opening the market of many kinds of products and improve the competitiveness of a series of products or service for enterprises.Like other enterprises, the essence of foreign trade companies' competitiveness is the ability to use the key elements of marketing effectively, and the combination of a series of complementary skill and knowledge inside enterprises, and it can make one or more business reach the first-class level in competition field and possess the obvious advantages. To be simple, it is the unique ability formed in the course of management that is able to bring the super-profit but difficult to be imitate by the rival that enterprises form in the course of management. The key competitiveness of foreign trade enterprises is formed in the course of marketing, serving and decision-making. Only after thecomparative advantage turn into competitive advantage, it could become the real export competitiveness.At present as foreign trade companies face multiple pressures from "Grand Economic and Trade Strategy" , homogeneity and brain drain, it is very necessary to promote and build one' s own key competitiveness urgently. Therefore, the professional trade company must implement "differentiation" firmly, pay attention to the manpower capital, implement talent' s strategy, strengthen innovation and management, implement "the strategy of low cost" firmly, create the unique enterprise culture and implement the brands strategy constantly.Core Competence is a lifeline of the professional foreign trade enterprise and the motivity for enterprises' operation and development. However, the forming and promoting of the key competitiveness does not accomplish in an action. While improving core competence, one should pay attention to the following problems: firstly, the leaders must realize the importance of the key competitiveness at first; secondly, they must establish key thought, key value and key goal of core competence. Thirdly, the propaganda and education of core competence must be strengthened. Fourth, operating environment must be set up corresponding with key competitiveness and mechanism. The fifth, key competitiveness must be built with the attitude of advancing with time. The sixth, core competence must be built in the lead offering value to customers. The seventh, the strategic system of forming the key competitiveness must be established. The eighth, the scientific development view must be established and implemented. The ninth, the continuous development must be taken into consideration. The tenth, the strategic protection for core competence must be strengthened.
