As the competitive results of enterprises, they are entering an age with slender profits and the product's cost and profit allocation is becoming more and more transparent. Obviously, the competitive points are transferring from cost not only to technology and human resource, but also to logistics and supply chain. So modern logistics has become " the 3rd profit source", which is the important source for cost reduction and competitive advantages. Since the 1980s, when the concept of supply chain was introduced to China, our logistics was greatly developed and with the help of supply chain management, enterprises are maximizing their whole profit. Currently, we have two main logistics methods in China, managing logistics by self and using 3 rd party logistics. More and more enterprises are using 3rd party logistics to reduce cost, to improve service and finally to increase profit. While if the 3 rd party logistics is suitable for all enterprises? Actually no! Some enterprises can have success by managing logistics themselves, such as the retail magnate of Ulma. That's to say no matter what kind of logistics method you chose, the important point is making the correct logistics decision according to the enterprise's own development strategy and operation fact.With this background, I wrote this thesis to help those domestic non-logistics enterprises on making correct 3 rd party logistics decision and its successful operation. This thesis mainly consists of three parts: Chapter 1 is the introduction of logistics, which is the basis of the whole thesis. Chapter 2 analyze the problems and challenges which our domestic enterprises faces when making logistics decision. And then in Chapter 3 & 4, with the theory basis of Strategy Management, Core competence and transition cost theory etc., I made detailed analysis and dissertation on how to make correct 3 rd logistics strategy and how to manage it successfully.With logistics practice and experience in enterprise, I awfully know the importance of logistics decision-making and its operation. So I would like to provide some help andreference to our domestics enterprise by writing this thesis. Since logistics management is a new research subject in our country, we do not have a set of theories and analyzing method ready on this field, and even academe can not say the last word. I raised the new idea of making logistics decision according to the strategy basis and core competitive advantages and recommended some essential elements of successful 3rd party logistics management. Since I don't have good command of theory and have limited materials in this field, this thesis need to be further improved in some aspects. You are much appreciated to raise your comments!...
