Implementation Of The User Authentication And Accounting System In Campus Network Based On RADIUS Protocol

With the development of Internet technology and the access to CERNET, campusnetwork resources become more and more colorful, the applica tion functions become moreand more complex. Although it provides the user with a wider network platform of resourcesharing and information excha nge, but it gives us a new challenge on network ma nagementand network security issues. As an important component of network ma nagement, the userauthentication and accounting system in campus network is imperative.This paper describes the critica l technology of authentication and accounting system,analysis three models of the user authentication and accounting system in campus network,design and develop a user authentication and accounting system in campus network based onRADIUS protocol, according to the existing network hardware. The system is divided intothree subsystems. They are ma nagement subsystem, the user self-service subsystem and theinteractive subsystem. It not only provides for administrators and users with a visua l platformof authentication and accounting ma nagement and self-service, but also achieves thecommunication between the access equipment and the RADIUS server. The functions of thema nagement subsystem ma inly include administrator information ma nagement, userinformation ma nagement, strategic ma nagement, system information ma nagement anddatabase ma nagement systems; the functions of the user self-service subsystem ma inlyinclude user information query and password revision; the functions of the linkage subsystemma inly include authentication ma nagement and accounting ma nagement. The System makesuse of the advantages of the access equipment in the access control and flow control,configures freeradius service, implements the ma nagement of user access authentication andaccounting in campus network, by mea ns of the LAMP open source integrated developmentenvironment. Currently, the Network Information Center of Xi'an University of Science andTechnology have used the user authentication and accounting system in campus networksuccessfully. It can realize Web access authentication and accounting ma nagement to campusnetwork users, solve the problem of the ma nagement of campus network users effectively,and achieve the goal of "network support of network ".
