Multimedia refers to the various media which transmits information, especially includes text, graphics, Images, audios, videos, animation. Multimedia technology refers to the applying of computer technology to the text, graphics, sound, images and other information media, making interactive, integrated processing and control, so that establishing logical connections then forming a system. Multimedia courseware or multimedia computer-assisted instruction (CAI) software is the software which uses the computer technology to design and develop the education. The content of the multimedia courseware is based on the teaching and learning theory,combined with the teaching objectives and teaching characteristics of an object which uses approach system, to design rationally and select teaching and learning information media, to form the structure of the teaching system.Multimedia courseware is teaching methods are popularly and widely used in the teaching process. Along with raising awareness of the multi-media teaching knowledge and the rapid development of multimedia technology itself, coupled with the rapid pace of computer hardware improvements, all these multimedia courseware provide very favorable conditions, making it have a broader space to develop. Widespread use of multimedia courseware for the new model classrooms has brought very good conditions, which can get a better result on the teaching process. This new model of multimedia courseware in teaching will lead to psychological changes of the students. However, the lag of the theoretical studies making chaotic situation of multimedia courseware application, which mainly shows in: abuse of multimedia courseware in classroom, regardless of what kind of class it is , and regardless of the suitability, and some of multimedia courseware production is in low quality. Some poor quality multimedia courseware used in teaching will have serious negative effects on the students. At present, many people have realized this phenomenon and they are improving positively in practice. However, many people only have an intuitive feeling to the production and use of multimedia courseware, there are few people willing to make systematic and specific studies, and also very few people are able to analyze and explore the changes of learning psychology and learning process from the student's point of view, formed in the environment of multimedia courseware. It is necessary to have a correct understanding and evaluation of multimedia courseware production, as well as use of multimedia hardware and software resources, which can result in the management and utilization of multi-media-aided teaching scientifically, thoroughly, rationally. Therefore, it is of great significance to make the intensive study to explore the production and use of multimedia courseware.In this thesis, the author studied the status, the application of the multimedia courseware, also stated the process problems and solution as well as the impact of multimedia courseware on teaching. All these four factors have been mentioned.In the new teaching mode, multimedia courseware can be used, but be sure to take a degree, instead of abusing multimedia courseware at the same time we must raise the quality of multimedia courseware. We should also pay much attention to the following issues when designing and using multimedia courseware1. Fully understand the application of the advantages of teaching with the aid of multimedia coursewareWhen using multimedia courseware, we should know that charts can be processed to image into the multimedia courseware. In the computer where not only arbitrary pairs of charts can be enlarged, reduced, marked, and "carried" easily ,which is also more convenient. Among the multimedia courseware, we can put things in the process of change dynamically portrayed, which is more vivid, intuitive, and easier to get the students to have a deep impression than simply using language to describe the image. The use of multimedia courseware can save preparation time. There are lots of open teaching resources, for which we should critically absorb for our own purposes. These resources can be cut and pasted through the computer. It is more labor-saving and convenient than the traditional hand-copying, or drawing.2. Selective use of multimedia courseware must be based on the needs of teaching.During lesson planning process, we have to choose appropriate multimedia courseware to support teaching. We could not forget the traditional blackboard teaching media when owning multimedia courseware.3. We must consider the advantages of traditional teaching process when producing and using the multimedia courseware.During the application of multimedia courseware, we must make students understand easily.4. The courseware must leave the students space and time to think.When design the multimedia courseware, firstly make sure the content is appropriate and suitable for the students. At the same time we have to consider whether it helps students to think of the problems, whether it can allow the students sufficient reflection time and space.5. We must consider teaching and learning environment when producing and using the multimedia courseware.When using multimedia courseware for teaching, we must make sure that all students can understand the contents of pictures, animation, video and other on-screen display, we especially ensure that the last few rows of students with normal vision can see all the contents on the screen. In addition, even if the effect of projection is not good, we cannot use the curtains in the whole class.Multimedia courseware as a supplementary teaching aid to improve the quality of teaching is inevitable. It is suit for the times'development, and it has advantage that other teaching methods can not match. However, we must use a divided perspective to this new thing. Multimedia courseware has advantages but also shortcomings, we can not simply desert it only because there are shortcomings, but only because it has the advantages, we then use it wrongly. Therefore, the request for teachers is that we must understand the advantages and disadvantages of the application of multimedia courseware, teachers must analyze carefully the curriculum and teaching contents, meanwhile combining with their own teaching practice process and teaching discipline to apply multimedia courseware reasonably in the classroom.
