Design And Implementation Of Automatic Network Topology Discovery System

Along with the development of computer network technology, the size of computer network grows larger and larger; the structure of network becomes more and more complex, understanding the topological structure and topological property of Internet has the vital significance to network management, network expansion, network performance optimization, network security, protocol optimization and so on. Therefore, the research of Internet topology discovery causes people's attention and becomes a hot.Automatic network topology discovery system is a system to ascertain relationships among devices which are managed, and to show topology to the users. It is a system based on SNMP and ICMP when implemented. Firstly, it preserves IP information about devices which are managed in the document, then analyses IP information to get the IP address and community string about network devices, collects MIB information of devices with IP address and community string, and analyses the information that has been collected to determine the relationship, and then writes the devices information and their relationship into an XML document, from which the system can get the relative information to show the topology. Automatic network topology discovery contains automatic topology discovery, data collection and data process. After giving the shortcoming of traditional algorithm and the mend, it introduces the description of automatic network topology discovery algorithm, the design of automatic network topology discovery flow and the implementation of automatic network topology discovery algorithm in the paper. The layout for network topology contains rotundity topology layout, sector topology layout and dendriform layout. In this thesis, it mainly introduces rotundity topology layout, and introduces the design of layout algorithm and the display process of the topology.In this thesis, it introduces the research background and practical significance of this topic firstly; then it introduces the topology management and technology about topology discovery; next it introduces the design and implement of the topology automatic discovery algorithm, the design of topology layout algorithm and the display process of topology; finally, it introduces the system's testing methods and processes. The results show that the relations among devices are basically the same with the ones that are accessed through other tools.
