Forest fires refer to those sudden and strong, serious damaging as well as difficult to fight and remedy natural disasters. Since wireless sensor networks has an unparalleled advantage in unattended environmental monitoring and disasters'fighting, the real-time forest fire monitoring and warning technology based on it has attracted great attention both at home and abroad. Zigbee technology is a standard wireless network protocol stack, which designed especially for low-rate sensor and corresponding control network. It has low power consumption, short delay, low-cost, reliable and security features, all of these will certainly help us make a big improvement on forest fire detection.This article built a real time forest fire monitoring system based on Zigbee after examining factors of forest fires. The main content and innovation is as follows. First,according to the physical characteristics of forest fire, we built a fire detection model and a fire spread one. Second, we made choices among various Zigbee printed circuit boards in accordance with the Zigbee communication protocol and sensors types, wrote proper software programs and debug real-time detection of key forest areas. Then, we explored the implementation process of remote monitoring system. After a brief introduction of the key elements of the system, we highlighted those core programs such as the coordinator nodes'communication with host computer, personal computer reception of sensor data. Subsequently, the best effective coverage algorithm of the target area and nodes managing energy algorithms had been studied. Finally, we verified the results after simulating and debugging our system.The system we built is able to detect the forest-related environmental parameters, such as temperature and humidity changes. It is not only able to detect a small fire at the very beginning, but also capable of achieving low cost, low power, real-time and remote monitoring purposes. In the respects of compensating for the lack of traditional forest fire detection technology as well as supporting forest fire prevention and relief, it has made a difference.
