With the advancement of wireless communications, electron and sensor, the Wireless Sensor Network becomes one of the hotspots currently. Wireless Sensor networks has many characteristics which is different from traditional networks, such as large number of nodes, big density, limited energy, topology changing frequently, etc. Therefore, the design of routing protocols is particularly important. The main aim of the design of routing protocols is lower energy consumption, load balancing and long lifetime. In this thesis, energy-saving and load balancing protocol is the focus. It is also analyzed, and then verified by experiments. This thesis mainly makes researches on wireless sensor network's Directed Diffusion and Two-Tier Data Dissemination Model protocol. An improved routing protocol based on Directed Diffusion is presented. By controlling Directed Diffusion of exploratory messages and making use of forwarding function, the energy consumption can be more efficient in free space model. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the improved protocol achieves energy saving, load balancing and longer lifetime of wireless sensor networks compared to DD. This thesis also introduces a Cluster-Based Routing Protocol for Supporting Mobile Sinks in Sensor Network (CBRP). The CBRP solves the problems of void grid and much energy consumption, which is produced by the Two-Tier Data Dissemination Model protocol. Theoretical analysis shows that CBRP achieves less control packets, energy saving and longer lifetime of networks.
