This paper is going to talk about the combination of two important techniques, the Mobile Ad-hoc Networks and the Intelligent Transport System. The Intelligent Transport System is a practical technology which becomes more and more focused in recent years with the development of Telecommunications and Computer Technology. The basic idea of Intelligent Transport System is to realize intelligent and high efficient transport management using modern telecommunication and computer technologies. There are several research field in the Intelligent Transport System including GPS, Central Management and Vehicular Ad-hoc Network. The Mobile Ad-hoc Network is an important branch in the Wireless Communications. Its main application is the dynamic wireless network whose nodes move constantly. The Mobile Ad-hoc Network technique solves the problems of the wireless network whose topology changes time by time. Thus, it is a valuable research field that to combine the Ad-hoc Network and the Intelligent Transport System. The combination might make the transport management intelligence and high efficiency through the inter communication between vehicles.The paper tries to build an Intelligent Transport System communication model based on the Ad-hoc Network. This model simulates an on-road wireless network constitute of vehicles. It uses network nodes to represent the vehicles on road and do some feasibility analysis. The paper also uses different Ad-hoc Network protocols to simulate on this communication model, and analyse their performances at different applications.Through study of the Wireless Communication, Ad-hoc Network and the Intelligent Transport System, I have got a deep understanding on these fields. The paper builds a suitable communication model which make the Intelligent Transport System on the Ad-hoc Network. This kind of combination is meaningful. The paper also analyze the performance of 802.11p, DSR and AODV, these different Ad-hoc Network protocols, on the communication model, and do a forecast to the future development.
