Excellent indoor coverage on the one hand can make most use of the network for operators to create great value; on the other hand it can also greatly reduce the cost of network. Therefore, Indoor coverage has become top priority of network construction for 3G operators.3G Home Base Stations Home Node B (HNB) just emerged for indoor communication. It improves the indoor coverage by placing the HNB device at users'home and making use of the broadband application of mobile phone and PC at home. It has promoted the integration of fixed and mobile network.Comparing with Macro NodeB, Home NodeB has its special features from business requirement aspect:1) There are fewer subscribers per HNB, and Potentially there are many more Home NodeBs; 2)HNB is placed at the user's site, it can be switched frequently, thus the connection between HNB and its OAM is dynamic, and the Operator can't access the HNB physically, which improved the challenge of the management of HNB.On the basis of the characteristics of HNB, we analyze the network architecture of HNB and its management requirements. HNB should support self-management and the management of HNB when OAM is not connected besides traditional configuration management, performance management and fault management. Then we analyze the research status of HNB management and on the basis of 3 GPP management framework we propose a policy-based management framework, providing policy guidance for the management of HNB. Then we define the management interface model of HNB in detail, including functions of the interface, management protocol and information model. According to TR-069, we propose a HNB management interface protocol HNBMP, HNB Management Protocol. It uses extended TR-069 RPC methods for the management of HNB network. And we detailly introduce the management procedure for the message exchange in the thesis. Finally, we develop a prototype system of HMS to verify the validation of the protocol and management framework. Though we can't precisely emulate the large amount of HNB in real network, the simulation result can still be used for the guidance of HNB management research and system development.
