Alongwith the rapid development of wifi technology, the indoor businessgrows fast. The network coverage problem is now becoming a major concernfor the further development of China Moblie’s TD-SCDMA, due toincapablility of indoor signal receiving from outdoor macro station caused bythe smaller coverage of telecom system, the higher of frequency and theinpenetration of modern buildings. Therefore, it is essential for us to improvethe technology of indoor coverage and service quality. The development ofFemto (Home NodeB), a new technology which increases indoor signalcoverage, facilitates the combination of fixed network and mobile network.Comparing with other similar technologies, it has some major advantages,such as lower costs, higher sevice qualities and the unnecessary changing thecore network. The afore-mentioned merits of Femto draw the attention of bothstandardization organizations and telecom industries.The dissertation firstly introduces Femto (Home NodeB) and interpretssome basic concepts, its domestic and overseas developments andapplications. Then it detailedly explains the technical principals, the basicelements, the system combinations and the network structure of TD-SCDMAFemto (Home NodeB). Based on the findings of recent industry developmentsand applications of Femto, the problems of China Mobile’s TD-SCDMAnetwork and the development trends of other domestic3G providers, thedissertation comprehensively discusses the neceesity and feasibility of ChinaMobile’s introduction of TD Femto on solving the network coverageproblems, verifies the feasibility of solutions by the establishment of testnetwork, and gives advices on the introducing of TD Femto base station.Finally, the dissertation gives through analysis on the existing problems of Femto and its solutions, Femto’s future developments and its thecommercialization situations and pending issues.With the application of Femto technology, the operator can achievebetter indoor signal coverage with lower prices. It will not only reduce theconstruction and maintenance cost, but also expand the variety of businesses,and improve users’ loyalty. Due to the improvement of indoor signal quality,the users’ mobile phone transmit power is relatively low. Therefore, thestandby time of the users’ mobile phone is greatly increased while the harmfulradiation reduced. The Femto technology will be an essential networkstructure in the LTE era and will be with great market potentiality.
