With the development of our society, the traditional security systems which based mainly on token or password, such as key, password, ID card and even IC card, have fallen behind the needs of economic activity and social security. This is because that they would be forgettable, falsifiable, stolen or decodable. With the development of electronic computer and information technology, the identification technology using biometric, automatic identification and individual by using certain physiological or behavioral characteristics associated with the person, have drawn more attention, such as face, fingerprint, iris, DNA and voice etc. Because of the invariability and uniqueness of the fingerprints, fingerprint recognition technique is superior to others and is becoming the most reliable biometric recognition technique, widely used in forensic, police and other security system recently. AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) is applied in daily life more and more with the appearance of cheap collector and the effective algorithms. In this paper, we have studied and analysed fingerprint recognition, automatic fingerprint identification system and fingerprint identification algorithm at first. The algorithm is mainly composed of three sections, which are fingerprint preprocessing (filter, binarization and thinning of gray-scale fingerprint image), feature extraction and fingerprint matching. It is applied in police daily training. The system is divided into four functional modules, which are learning, training, examination, and file management sub-systems. It combines the four sub-systems mentioned above with fingerprint recognition technology. The police training platform uses fingerprint recognition technology as a means for civilian police authentication. The police log in the platform through their fingerprint and thereafter they can browse the resources or have examination tests. Compared with the traditional log-in means using user name and password, the system improves the safety and certainty of the platform user to a large extent, and puts an end to the phenomenon of substitute examining and illegal log-in. At the same time administrators at all levels of the platform can log in the platform using fingerprint and manage the information of the platform, thus it can improve security of police information and personal information in the platform.
