Compared with flickering details, the human visual system is more sensitive to large-area flickering. Television displays apply interlacing to take profit from this fact, while broadcast formats were originally defined to match the display scanning format. As a result, interlace is found throughout the video chain. The major flaw of interlacing is that it complicates many image-processing tasks. Particularly, it complicates scanning-format conversions. With the advent of high-definition television, video phone, the Internet and video on personal computers(PC's) in large numbers, many scanning formats have to be conversed to the broadcast formats. Development of the display techniques also make the artifacts of interlacing perceivable. To satisfied the different requires of embedded system and advanced de-interlacing applications, we propose a motion-adaptive-based de-interlacing method and a motion compensation based adaptive de-interlacing method. The main work and contributions of this paper is as follows:Firstly, in the base of the traditional filed-difference-based motion detect technology, we propose an improved four-field motion detect method, profit from the motion state of 8 pixel neighborhood of the current pixel. The detect result is more accurate and smoothing, reduce the affect of the noise to the detect result.Secondly, in the base of the traditional edge-based line average(ELA) interpolating method, according to the principle that the correlation between pixels is bigger when they are closer, we propose an improved ranked edge-based line average(RELA) method, overcome the inherent flaw of ELA, and the computational complexity is not obviously increased by this change. Finally, in the based of three-dimension recursive search block-match estimation, propose an motion compensation based adaptive de-interlacing algorithm, this method improves the quality of the deinterlaced video, and the computational complexity is not so high, is very proper for the de-interlacing application.
