In BIW (Body In White) robot welding line, the whole line features complex structure, high automation, difficulty in control, and high safety requirements. Based on the ROCKWELL control platform, the electric control system of the whole line was studied. According to the production process and the line composition, standardized and modularized hardware design and control network were constructed by means of ROCKWELL Company's NetLinx open network architecture, hardware facilities and software system, which simplifies the hardware connection, and reduces the cost. Based on the analysis of the whole line control tasks, the whole line control programs were planned accordingly, and the general control programs of typical stations and typical equipment were developed. Through establishing standard interface and rich control variables for each program modules, enhancing the readability of the program, improving the efficiency of programming, shorting the development cycle time of lines, and realizing the standardized and modularized control program. A safety electrical system, composing of safety controller, multilevel safety field-bus, and safety IO modules, ensures the system safety, reliability and efficiency, consequently makes the whole line control more flexible, and installation, commissioning, maintenance, and servicing more convenient as well.
