This paper introduced the development of the welding automation. The trend and research of the welding automation was discussed. The architecture and principles of welding stations, both arc welding and spot welding, were also summarizedThis paper presented the design of an actual robot welding line. Modular design was utilized for the development of the assembly line, in order for shortening the design period and increasing the robustness and reliability of the system. The Fieldbus including Profibus and Devicenet was adopted to ensure the safety of data transfer. This proposed the control methodology of the station and the implementation of the control system was also introduced.
