BIW(Body-In-White) welding line tends to be automated and flexible,with the rapid development of the automotive industry. As the most flexible equipment in welding line, more and more industrial robots are used in automotive industry. In this paper, we take a mini-bus control system as the research object, design and establish fieldbus-based distributed I / O control system for a robot body-in-white welding line.This paper describes the composition of automobile BIW welding production line, the current status and development of automobile welding technology. Through analyzing the characteristics of process, the content and requirements of control, the control system architecture based on PLC was set up, and the design of hardware and software was accomplished. The modular and structured software programming was studied. On this basis, the systematic planning of control system for the whole welding line was conducted. Finally, detailed analysis and designs the process of software engineering for keys facility facilities in BIW welding line were implemented, and communication and control of the BIW robot welding line was achieved.The design requirements of this project were satisfied, and the system was accepted, and is running well.
