In this thesis, a design method of USB2.0 video camera controller is described. After the USB2.0 protocol, CMOS image sensor and general FPGA design flow is introduced, the hardware and software of the design is describled in detail.Firstly, this thesis introduced current development of USB and USB device, and the significance of the research of USB device controller. After this, the paper introduced the protocol of USB2.0, which is the base of this design. Finally, the paper introduced the basic technology of digital image processing and FPGA design flow.USB2.0 video image controller has 7 modules in hardware:Microcontroller (MCU), USB2.0 PHY, USB2.0 Serial Interface Engine (USB2.0 SIE), DataBuffer module (DataBuffer), DMA controller (DMA), Image Processing Unit (PU) and MCU BusInterface. MCU controls the whole operation of the design, USB2.0 PHY finishes the UTM functions, presents UTMI for USB2.0 SIE. USB2.0 SIE deals with the USB protocol packets, provides the payload of USB2.0 protocol packets for the device. DataBuffer is a buffer for the data of the USB2.0 packets. DMA transfers between USB2.0 SIE and PU module, MCU BusInterface connects all modules to MCU. All modules interface connecting was given in this paper.The whole operation of the design is controlled by the MCU software. The software complies with USB2.0 protocol and UVC1.1 protocol. The target is to properly control the modules, parse and execute all the commands from USB and realize video transmission control functions. The whole software program consists of USB bus enumerate,setting of USB image parameters and image transferring.At last, the result of verification based FPGA is given in the paper, which proves that the aim has been reached.
