At present, the video surveillance system has been widely used, but it still need monitor staff to view the monitor screen continuously.lt not only has to spend a lot of manpower and material resources, but also can not discover and stop dangerous events in time. Intelligent video surveillance system can realize unmanned real-time monitoring, analyse the data captured by video camera automatically and alarm if necessary.Motion object detection is the first step in intelligent video surveillance, which provides the basis for object tracking and high-level behavior understanding of moving objects. Due to the large volume of data in video processing tasks and the real-time requirement of monitoring system, we design the FPGA-based motion object detection system, which makes use of the parallel-processing and hardware-realization advantages of FPGA. The main contents include design and implementation the FPGA-based embedded video processing system, as well as realize the motion detection algorithm on FPGA.Firstly, the hardware platform for FPGA-based video processing system is designed.Based on the overall hardware structure of the system, a complete hardware design is given, including the smallest FPGA system, video capture module, SDRAM memory module and video output module. Secondly, several commonly used moving object detection algorithm is analyzed and compared, focusing on the frame difference method. Using tools of Xilinx's System Generator and Math Works'Matlab, the model of frame difference method is built and tested. Thirdly, the basic flow and working mechanisms of video processing are discussed, focusing on how to use I2C bus to configuration and control the video decoder chip SAA7113, how to transform YUV4: 2:2 format video to gray images, and how to store image date in SDRAM. Then the VHDL coding of each module is achieved. Finally, each module of system is tested by Xilinx's Simulate. The test results show that the modules can achieve the corresponding functions, and meet the design requirements.
