Improvement And Research About The WEP Protocol Of The Wireless Local Area Network

With the development of the communication industry, users, with higher expectations, require not only stable voice communication service, but also more and more data and multimedia communicatiom service. This leads to the evolution from the existing network to the next generation network(NGN), the goal is to provide a wealth of business by unifying the IP network, including not only voice business but also broadband multimedia business and others; not only fixed business, but also mobile service.The security mechanisms if IEEE 802.11 serial protocols use a lot of technology on cryptology impertinently, and can not realize the goal of its design at all. TKIP and 802.1x protocols have remedied the design defect in WEP from a certain degree, but bring a lot of new security problem. The WLAN protocols of national standards of out country, WAPI, have higher securities, but have not got extensive implementation yet at present.In this paper, the theory of WLAN is studied, including protocols of wireless transmission and the applications of WLAN. The security criterion of WLAN are also studied, such as WEP, WPA1, WPA2, including their arithmetic and their advantages and disadvantages. RC4 and AES are typical arithmetic used in encryption. They are also particular studied. The paper also analyzes the improvement of WEP and compares their efficiency.
