Research And Implementation Of The Active Probing System On Streaming Meida Service's Availability

With the improvement of 3G network infrastructure, the enhancement of mobile terminal functionality and the rich media content, streaming media service will become the new growth point of mobile communication services in the future. However, as a kind of broadband service, streaming media service has strict requirement for network bandwidth, jitter, delay, and loss tolerance. Therefore, there might be fade-to-black, mosaic, and voice interruption when users use the streaming media service in peak time. To resolve the above problems, the quantitative description and objective evaluation should be provided firstly, and we need a test system for streaming media service, with the ability of automatic recording abnormal results, accurate result, less human participation, convenient statistical computing.This paper first has a review on the status and the issues of streaming media service and the needs of QoS. Moreover, here it carefully analyzes streaming media service's availability and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. Based on that, we bring forward the streaming media service's availability test system. Then, the paper describes some related technologies, mainly about streaming media technology and testing technology to streaming media. And then, in the above theoretical basis, starting from the actual project, the paper completes the system's outline design, detailed design and implementation, and demonstrates the result in practical applications. Finally, the paper sums up the work and pointed out the directions of the future work.The main contribution of this paper is as follows:Firstly, through theoretical analysis, the paper builds an availability indicator system on streaming media service.Secondly, the paper designs and realizes the active probing system on streaming media service's availability, through the analysis of the streaming media service's quality. The system can precisely simulate the action of the user, and automatically sample the indicators of the performance. If the testing indicator is out of the thresholds, the system will send an alarm to manager to resolve the quality problem of the streaming media service as soon as possible.The active probing system on streaming media service's availability can help mobile operators to track the streaming media service provider (SP) and the quality of the streaming media service.
