VANET(Vehicular Ad-hoc NETwork) is a kind of Ad-hoc networkused in traffic communications between vehicles to vehicles and vehiclesto road-side infrastructures. It's a kind of MANET's(Mobile Ad-hocNETwork) application used in the field of traffic. The original purpose ofVANET is to increase security of road traffic and decrease the loss due totraffic accidents. As a result, it is its special application that makes it needa reliable network communication as well as a high demand of networksecurity. In this thesis, we focus on authentication architecture and trust modelof network security of VANET. We propose a kind of authenticationarchitecture named of "Street Regional Authentication Architecture". Weanalyses the identities and functions of each kind of nodes and design theprocess of authentication between different nodes. With the optimizationand security analysis of the architecture, we then introduce the conceptionof trust models for VANET. After analysing the entity-centric based trustmodels of VANET, we propose a kind of trust model named "Information Based Trust Model". We give a detailed design of the architecture andfunctions of each module of the trust model and then illustrate a simplecase study for further optimization and security analysis. Our finalsimulation results confirm the optimization effects of authenticationprocess in street regional VANET and show the difference of three typicalalgorithms of the decision module in information based trust model andtheir suited application area.
