With the rapid development of network communications and the improvement of user's requirement, microwave communication plays an important role in SDH network. Traditional SDH system is optimized for the speech signal communication. Nowadays, since the disadvantages of traditional SDH especially in efficiency and flexibility made SDH slow down the step to meet current needs. IP plays a leading role in network domain. Emergence of Ethernet over SDH makes SDH network diversified. Recent years, with the increase of Ethernet Service in transport network, Ethernet faces great challenges in ability of service provision, service quality, scalability, reliability, ability to manage operation and maintenance. In order to make Ethernet toward Carrier Ethernet, technology of Ethernet needs further development in standardization.Ethernet OAM (Operation, Administration, and Maintenance) describes the monitoring of network operation by network operators. OAM is a set of functions that can detect faults of network, as well as fault-related information, evaluate network performance, and reduce the cost of network. Ethernet OAM is a key technolegy which must be faced seriously and solved conscientiously in the course of Ethernet develop from LAN towards WAN and MAN.This thesis describes state of the art, key technologies and developing trends of Ethernet OAM. Software in Ethernet OAM framework is designed in microwave SDH network according to the experience of SDH OAM and MPLS OAM design. This project is based on software; the system needs stress test at the beginning of the project. To make sure the original system has the ability to load Ethernet OAM software package, we use socket technology to simulate Ethernet OAM send CCM frame is employed, and the CUP load tool to observe the load profile is also used. On the premise that system can afford Ethernet OAM mechanism, this thesis put forward and realize an Ethernet OAM plan in microwave system. Finally, this research tests the software module under the Laboratory conditions; experiment result shows that the software can realize the management of Ethernet in the SDH microwave communication system.As the ever-changing embedded systems, to reduce the interdependence between the hardware and software and make it parallel development is the correct direction.At the some time reasonable and effective code reuse can reduce the periods of product's coming into the Market. After realizing Process-oriented Ethernet OAM software package by use of C language, we also carry out Object-oriented Ethernet OAM software package by means of UML and Rhapsody, multi-languages make this module can be easily embed in many operation systems.
