WiMax is a technology based on IEEE 802.16 or BWA (Broadband Wireless Access, Broadband Wireless Access) standard for Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN),it has faster transmission speed, longer transmission distance, QoS guarantee and better security. Because it supports higher speed of broadband wireless access and faster mobile speed, communication operators use it to provide data access services for uers. The Data Path is a very important functional entity in the WiMax Acess Network, and the Generic Route Encapsulation (GRE) is used as the tunneling protocol for the Data Path. It is mainly responsible for data transmission between BS and ASN-GW (over R6) or between ASN-GW and ASN-GW(over R4), and managing the corresponding tunnel through the Application Layer session.Firstly, this paper analyses the WiMax network architecture and working process resumptively with the reference of the WiMax standard specifications, and makes further researches on Data Path Function especially based on the experience of researching Key Technologies of Next Generation Broadband Wireless multimedia (BWM).At the same time,a dynamic approach of DPid distribution is presented to guarantee the DPid's uniqueness and safety-reliablely distribution in the NAP.Subsequently, according to the project mentioned above, the paper discusses how to realize the data path function in the WiMax ASN-GW.Finally,the paper makes a summerization and further study of the subject.
