With continuous development of social economy, the vehicle type automatic recongnition is getting more and more important in the positions of people's economy and social activity. We also put forward more and more new request on the quality and the level of the vehicle type automatic recognition. The current transportation is mainly a manual management in our country, we need to devote a great deal of manpower, material resources and financial powers, and this kind of management can not be adapted to the modern request any more. Therefore, it is important that how to carry out the vehicle type automatic recognition to city transportation, highway, and toll stations for each kind of vehicle and the large parking lot waits. Digital image processing technologics is closely related to social life, and as an inportant computer branch,the vehicle type automatic recognition technologics is a kind of new style image recognition technology,which is developed due to the theory of present computer technology,artificial intelligence,pattern recognition and image processing.This thesis mainly discusses the fundamental theories and key technologies of vehicle type automatic recognition technique based on digital image recognition in intelligent transportation system.Information collection and traffic detection has become an important subject in intelligent transportion system, and vehicle type automatic recognition is the basic parts.Based on summarizing and analyzing the existing technologies of vehicle type automatic recognition, at the same time, with following the digital image processing technologics,this thesis brings forward new methods. Moreover, experiments are implemented to demonstrate the validity. The vehicle type recognition is one of the basic problems in intelligent traffic system, because the vehicle outer shape and the background of vehicle image chops are various, so vehicle type automatic recognition is an unsolved problem. Its research attracts many researchers. Therefore, the vehicle type recognition problem is studied. The main innovations and results can be described as follows:1) The paper introduces digital image processing technologic and its system, and analyses the vehicle type recognition study of domestic and oversea. With the development of digital image processing technologic and the vehicle type recognition, the whole paper's layout has been marked out.2) The theory of digital image processing is very enrichment, this paper firstly begin of the basic theory, and then pack up those theory. With compared with a lot of image processing arithmetic and combined the advantage of that arithmetic, this paper optimizes the design of image processing. Standing the basic of the color model, the RGB model, HIS model, YUV model and YCbCr model are analyzed.3) Because of multicolor image influences the vehicle type recognition a little, this paper only consider gray image. As for this, the data of image has been reduced and the program efficiency has been advanced. Later, the edge detection and image filter are introduced, especially the image segmentation and the curve construct of the gray image.4) The distilling contour of vehicle is very important; this paper summarizes parameters of many vehicle types, and then built up the stylebook of the car, carriage and truck, so they supply reference stylebook to the vehicle type recognition.5) Firstly, this paper deploys the vehicle image enhancement technology and eliminates the disadvantage of image enhancement by using wavelet transform. This method saves the objective detail of vehicle image and smooth image impression, and then image contrast is distinctness. Secondly, the author translates one dimension to two dimension wavelet and uses it in the digital image processing. The paper tests the image enhancement arithmetic and gain better expected effect. The author uses arithmetic of multi-scale detection analysis bases on the wavelet transform. Lastly, this paper compares B spline arithmetic with CANNY arithmetic; this shows that CANNY arithmetic better than B spline arithmetic. Facing the problem of illegible image contour, the paper constructs the curve by using B spline and gain better effect.6) With combining the similitude of picture and video, this paper also research on video and improves the vehicle track arithmetic basic on GM(1,1) model, so reduce the error between real and expected value, and then, this paper gains long time expected forecast track and heighten the efficiency of the vehicle type recognition.7) Eventually, this paper analyzes the numerical value of vehicle contour parameter and builds up data stylebook of car, carriage and truck. At the same time, the author introduces the vehicle type recognition system; it includes C++language and MFC and so on. Lastly, this paper supplies the MFC window of the vehicle type recognition and tests this system, then gets better effect.
