In this article, the wavelet transform is used to improve the recognition ability of vehicle's characters recognition system, because the "microscope" feature and similar-human vision feature can be used in the image analyze. Three problems have been solved in this article:(1) Investigate segmentation and denoising of the characters. A denoising method of keeping edge has been built on the basic of area denoising in existence. This arithmetic can keep the original feature of the character in denoising, and then improve the traditional method.(2) From the analyze of the advantages and disadvantages of statistic feature and frame feature, we has built out gridding feature of wavelet having both advantages using wavelet 2-D image decompose which has speciality of human vision.(3) From the analyze of characters system's attribute and the cognize of human in character's recognition, an intelligent recognition system model of characters with specialty of multilayer and varieties of variables has been built. This model can overcome the abuse that single model feature lacks and increase the efficiency.We have improved the real-time and accuracy of traditional methods, found the representational character feature, and have designed a character recognition system with fast recognizing speed and high recognizing rate, using artifical intelligent theory , computer technology and digital signal processing.
