In the industrial wireless sensor network (WSN), MAC protocol is one of the key network protocols which guarantee efficient communication in WSN. Besides constrained resources within WSN in the industrial site, plenty of complex interference is present and wireless link quality varies rapidly, which induces dynamic change of network topology and heavy packet loss:therefore. MAC protocols should be designed in accordance with specific application characteristics and requirement to guarantee reliable and real-time transmission. In the paper, reliable and real-time transmission is given research priority in the light of prevalent dynamics in WSN as well as the planned structure of data acquisition system in the context of the industrial wireless transmission application. Moreover, two MAC protocols, MPSIF and MFTP, have been designed based on the cross-layer concept. In the simulation experiment, MPSIF and MFTP are comprehensively compared with other homogeneous protocols in terms of various transmission performances and the results corroborate the superiority of MPSIF and MFTP in the aspects of reliable and real-time transmission as well as energy efficiency in more real network environment.
