Study On Coverage Of The Eleventh National Games Of Urban Newspaper In One City

The quadrennial National Games,as a national sports event,has become the focus of domestic and foreign media.The national people reviewed the results of the development of sports undertakings in China via the media through the Eleventh National Games.Various media disseminated lots of news and information of the National Games to mass audience through all kinds of channels of communication.Taking three urban newspapers of Qilu Evening News,Jinan Times and Shandong Business News in one city with similar orientation as the study materials, this paper makes a lateral comparison and analysis on their coverage of the National Games during 15 Oct. to 29 Oct. (mainly the coverage from the day before the opening ceremony to the day after the closing ceremony). Meanwhile,I make case study on the coverage of some special issues,as opening and closing ceremonies,Liu Xiang's winning the championship,torch relay in City of Springs and other major events, of these newspapers.According the studies, to a certain extent,the National Games became a "media event" which was schemed and presented by media. These three newspapers intervened and involved in it in different ways to varying degrees,especially the Qilu Evening News. Regarding the situation both within and without venues and attaching importance to interaction,3 special issues of these newspapers transported abundant information of the National Games to audience. With different size and framework of the coverage of the National Games,these newspapers were varied in the degrees of the understanding and grasp of the law of news distribution. In terms of significant events,the Qilu Evening News was aggressive and had a strong sense of planning, and Jinan Times and Shandong Business News,however, were in a passive position. The orientations of their coverage were of significantly differences:the Qilu Evening News,with the orientation of crossing the province and country,abandoned the localization; the Jinan Times,as a sports-oriented newspaper,made the localization as its commercial appeal; and the Shandong Business News pursued novelty and made achievement by vast amounts of information.Applying the methods of framework analysis,content analysis and case analysis, analyzing and comparing the coverage content, media strategy, planning and creativity,operation mode of coverage,dissemination result and market exploitation of these three newspapers,this paper strives to laterally explore and research the laws and characteristics of the coverage on the National Games of the urban newspapers, explore how the traditional newspaper media to make better coverage on the National Games and fulfill media's social function in the digital and network era. I hope this paper may supply reference on the coverage of large events or significant events in the future.
