| As the rapid development of communication network and multimedia technology, multimedia communication has become a focus in 3G network and the next generation network. However, the information contained in images is too much to make a smooth transmission in the channel with limited bandwidth, so the image information must be compressed and encoded. Image compression encoding is one of the key techniques in modern multimedia and communication field. Among kinds of compressing methods, discrete cosine transform (DCT) is the core of most international image compressing standards. The block-based DCT compression methods often cause blocking artifacts due to low bit rates. A new blocking artifacts reduction algorithm which combines HVS and entropy analysis is proposed in this paper. We fist introduce the HVS-based visible function of blocking artifacts, then according to the entropy analysis classifies the blocks which need processing by setting the threshold value into two categories: texture block and smooth block. The adaptive filter is applied for different blocks at last. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can not only reduce blocking artifacts, but also preserve textures adequately. |
