Workflow technology can effectively optimize business processes, and improve business processing flexibility. However, traditional workflow technology could not integrate the different systems effectively, or even if it could, it is also very complex. Now using the service-oriented architecture can solve these problems, by distributing deploying, composing and using through networks loosely coupled, coarse-grained, serviced-application components, according to the needs of enterprises. Combining the characteristics of workflow technology with the features of service-oriented architecture, this thesis presents the service-oriented workflow system, which is adapting to the enterprises'requirements for complex applications in today's open, distributed, heterogeneous, dynamic network environment.After studying the service-oriented idea and the characteristics of workflow technology, an architecture model of service-oriented workflow system is designed. Meanwhile, with the Web Service and WF workflow model merged into the structure, the architecture model is brought into play in a practice project. At last the flexibility and interoperability of the application system are overall enhanced, and the developing efficiency of business process is improved at the same time.This thesis firstly analyzes workflow technology and service-oriented architecture, including the concept of workflow and the features of service-oriented architecture, especially those of the WF workflow technology and Web Service, which is the implementation technique of service-oriented. Because the WF workflow technology and Web Service is widely applied in designing the service-oriented workflow system model and developing the application system, the thesis also analyzes the relationship between WF workflow and Web Services.Secondly, on the basis of theoretical knowledge of workflow technology and service-oriented technology, as well as the Pet Shop three-tier architecture model, integrating WF workflow technology and Web Service, the service-oriented workflow system model is put forward, adding the WF workflow into the business logic layer. Meanwhile, in order to reflect the flexibility of WF workflow and interoperability of service-oriented, the composite Activities are added in the WF workflow layer. According to business logic, it can dynamically combine a composite of Activities to create the workflow, enabling the system of business processes.Finally, the designed service-oriented workflow system model is applied to an actual project, and an equipment management system is developed. In the equipment management system, a sequence workflow is made from the compound of Activities, which are triggered through the user interface buttons. The data is exchanged between application processes and workflow with transferring the parameters of the interface project. The users operate the user interface buttons to trigger workflow's complex activities, to realize the application system's business logic functions. Meanwhile, by invoking Web Service, workflow can realize the communication among worklow, application and Web Service. Reflecting the workflow flexibility and service-oriented interoperability.
