The rapid development of modern industrial, computer, communications and electronic technology, making automotive instrumental systems which as important information interaction interfaces between drivers and vehicles are continuously invented and updated. Further more, the digital LCD of car assembly virtual instrumentation with multi-function, on which the research and development has good practical and economical values, has becoming an important development direction.With the application requirements of all-digital intelligent virtual instruments on cars, relative standard design principles of virtually automotive instruments are proposed, and then system function modules are reasonable divided, finally, the expected system model is being successful realized with comprehensive use of CAN bus, embedded ARM, Win CE.net and electronic display technologies. Various types of real-time data, such as car speed, engine speed, mileage, temperature, amount of fuel, alarm information, are gathered by data acquisition modules, then transferred by CAN bus to the system control unit, in which relevant analysis and computing are carried out, and the results are sent to the LCD controller on which human-machine interaction can be achieved for the dynamic digital and graphics display according to users demands, simultaneously important data are preserved to the documents for the purpose of preparing for query in the future, and alarm information are given when getting abnormal traffic data.In the paper, the research background, domestic and foreign research situation at present, development experiences and future trends of the subject are analyzed, then the overall design scheme are given, the customization procedures of embedded real-time operating system-Win CE kernel and development processes of CAN bus driver in the automotive virtual instrumentations are detailed presented, and the design ideas and thorough methods of car's virtually instrumental graphical interface are introduced. By testing, many advantage of the system model are obtained, such as rich display of information, transmit timely and accurate, high reliability and easy operation, simple and beautiful interface, and good scalability.Finally, the imperfect fields which need further improvement of the system model are analyzed, and the future developments of vehicle's virtual instrumentations are put forward.
